The Barron O'Buchlyvie

The Baron O'Buchlyvie was a breed of horse called a Clydesdale which was an important breed in it's day. Born in 1900 it went on to win many horse shows and fathered many son and daughters who were also prize winners.

He was involved in a legal dispute over ownership, which led to him being sold. The price paid, £9,500, was a record price for any horse at that time. This record breaking price gives the Baron O'Buchlyvie his place in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum supporting the theme of Animal Record Breaker.

When he was 14 years old, the Baron O'Buchlyvie was kicked by a mare. His leg was broken and had to be put down. The skeleton of the Baron can be seen at the museum.
